Borders & Borders Express Bookstores in Oregon
Each SMART reader gets 2 books each month to take home and keep. Sometimes, these are the only books in the child's home. In August, at Borders and Borders Express book stores throughout Oregon, you can donate softcover books that the readers can take home and cherish. Or your generous donation of hardcover books will help build a permanent library found at each SMART site.

SMART is an official charity of the 2008 Portland Marathon--the walker-friendliest marathon, and MP3 player friendly! Participants from all over the globe come to Portland for this event. All athletic abilities are welcome.
Participate in any Portland Marathon event (5-mile, 6.2-mile, or the full 26.2-mile) and help us reach our fundraising goal of $10,000 to ensure 33 kids receive the benefit of SMART in 2008-09.
There are four ways to get involved:
- Join Team SMART by emailing Stephanie Stoller.
- Register today and make a donation to SMART.
- Become a fundraiser, or donate to someone’s cause.
- Form a team with your co-workers and participate in the Corporate Challenge or sign up for SMART today.

Rooftop of Station Place Smart Park
Join us at the fifth annual SMART Gala—this time with a Brazilian twist!
Sip a beverage and watch the sun go down from the rooftop of the Station Place Smart Park. Munch on Brazilian faire while soaking in the sounds of Portland’s own Lions of Batucada – a Brazilian-styled marching samba ensemble with costumed and choreographed samba dancers. They’ve performed with the likes of David Byrne, Sean Lennon, Pink Martini, Aerosmith and many more! (Check out this video of them.)
